I figured it would be a good idea to write an English entry again. Writing Dutch all the time numbs your international brain, and I’m abroad now anyway. Although I’m not sure, because maybe Belgium isn’t the most abroad you can get as Dutch. But you travel over an hour to get there, and calling on your mobile for one minute costs you almost as much as a cubic meter of water.

I’m visiting Ghent with Anniek to celebrate the Gentse Feesten. It’s some sort of street festival with music, happiness, street performances and of course beer. Lots of beer. Not all of the performances are fun, and there are moments where we were sitting on the middle of a square drinking beer and discussing our business plans, but overall it was worth it. Yesterday we went to a hypnotizing performance, although it turned out to be more like “put 10 people on chairs on stage and let them do stupid things”, rather than actually hypnoizing.

We’ve probably watched about five movies (I don’t remember how many exactly) and the best one definitely was Les triplettes de Bellevieu (CONTROLEREN). It is an animation movie about a boy who loves biking and his grandmother. The grandmother buys him a bike and he starts biking. Later, when he is taking part in the tour de france (or some WIELERRACE at least), he is kidnapped. His granny tries to find him and travels all over the world. Go and watch it sometime, it’s worth it!

Now we’re driving back to Eindhoven: trucks on my right, concrete highway flower pots on my left: high speed travelling is boring. Back in the days, when we still had horse carriages, people had to reserve days for a simple trip like ours, just for transportation. At least they had something to look at. I can’t wait to get to the border, where the flower pots are replaced by new ones. Maybe they keep me from being bored for another five minutes or so.
